Please consider the resources on this webpage as a guide to your success. 

How to Volunteer

Davenport Community Schools wants your volunteer experience to be pleasant and meaningful.  We recognize that all of us share common concern for the safety and security of our children. To help guarantee the highest quality volunteer experience for everyone, all prospective volunteers must complete an application and background screening prior to service in our schools. If you have questions, please contact the Volunteer Office at (563) 336-7426.

Volunteer Opportunities

Davenport Community Schools relies on the support of volunteers to help fulfill our mission of enriching the lives of youth in our community.  Research shows that involved parents and an engaged community support student achievement.  As a volunteer, there are many ways you can perform a meaningful role in providing quality learning experiences:

Instructional Support

  • Classroom
  • English as a Second Language

Non-instructional Support

  • WatchDOGS (at selected schools)
  • Library or Computer Lab
  • Lunchroom or playground support
  • Office help

Volunteer Resource Center

The Davenport Community Schools Volunteer Office has prepared a series of informational sheets that prospective volunteers may find useful or insightful as they begin their service in the schools.

In addition, here are other sites regarding volunteerism:

  • The National Mentoring Organization– The National Mentoring Partnership is an advocate for the expansion of mentoring and a resource for mentors and mentoring initiatives nationwide.
  • The Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service – This site connects you to the State of Iowa and their resources on volunteering.  If you are an AmeriCorps volunteer, this sight allows you to access information on other AmeriCorps projects around the state.
  • Corporation for National and Community Service – Organization overseeing AmeriCorps, SeniorCorps, & Learn and Serve America.
  • American Red Cross of the Quad Cities
  • Points of Light Foundation– Created in 1990 in Washington, D.C., Points of Light is a nonpartisan, non-profit organization set up to engage more people effectively in volunteer community service to help solve serious social programs. (Volunteer programs in all 50 states).
  • America’s Promise – America’s Promise – The Alliance for Youth, led by retired General Colin L. Powell, is mobilizing people from every sector of American life to build the character and competence of our nation’s youth.
  • Family Friendly Schools – Family Friendly Schools  is committed to helping schools establish a culture that promotes shared responsibilities for the academic achievement of all students.
