DAVENPORT COMMUNITY SCHOOLS SEEKS
COMMUNITY INPUT THROUGH ADVISORY COMMITTEE

As in past years, a Local School Improvement Advisory Committee (LSIAC) is being formed to provide important planning information to the Board members of the Davenport Community Schools.  LSIAC members act as representatives of the community and advocates for students, reviewing data and considering options for improving the district’s programs, facilities and services.

“The district has long valued and utilized community involvement as a major vehicle for identifying district needs and for addressing district-related community issues,” notes Dr. Jim Blanche, superintendent of the Davenport Community Schools.  “Ultimately, the LSIAC is responsible for acting as consultant to the board regarding district-related issues, including providing information and suggestions. He adds that the membership of the LSIAC should reflect the diversity of the district and the community. The committee should also be representative of the business community, higher education, local government and service organizations, as well as including students, parents, teachers and district administrators.

Expectations currently call for LSIAC members to meet beginning in February and continuing through spring.  Members will discuss a variety of school topics related to school improvement including facility planning and renovations, safety and security, issues related to No Child Left Behind compliance and projections for future enrollment.

Those interested in serving on the LSIAC can fill out an application on-line at http://www.davenportschools.org/lsiac/index.asp or can obtain an application from any school facility after January 5th.  Deadline for applications is January 28th.  For more information, contact Board secretary, Linda Smith-Kortemeyer at 336-5087.
