Cell Phone and Electronic Devices

I.                     Definition

  • Phones are to be turned off and out of sight during the instructional day.

II.                   Instructional Day

  • The definition of instructional day may vary slightly from school to school dependent upon the culture and climate of a particular building.

  •  In all cases the instructional day includes time spent in classes, passing periods between classes, the lunch period and other instructional situations.

  • Teachers planning to use electronic devices for instructional purposes must secure prior approval of the building principal each time they plan to do so.

III.                 Enforcement

  • All staff are expected to enforce the cell phone and electronics denies policy and accompanying rules and regulations.

IV.                 Consequences

  • When a staff member sees or hears an electronic device during the defined time period, they are and turn over to the administration.

  • Parents will be notified the device has been confiscated and are required to pick up the device.

  • A student who refuses to turn over a cell phone or electronic devise when in violation of the policy will be considered insubordinate with consequences appropriate to insubordination, and their personal discipline record.

V.                   Security

  • Administration will secure devices awaiting parental pick-up in a locked compartment.

VI.                 The building principal has the discretion to waive this policy in extenuating/individual circumstances.
