Intermediate Athletic Eligibility

All Davenport intermediate schools have adopted the Power of I reform initiative. The “Power of I” has implications on our 7th and 8th Grade Eligibility Standards.

To simplify, the following are what you, the parents and teachers should expect:

  • There will be weekly grade checks for all student/athletes.

  • There will be three (3) possible entries on the grade sheet: 1) PASS; 2) PASS/I; and 3) I. PASS/I indicates that your child is passing but is missing important assignments

  • If your child receives a PASS/I or I you should expect communication of that status from the teacher who assigned the grade.

  • If your child receives a PASS/I or I, he/she will be expected to attend the required *study interventions to reconcile the PASS/I or the I. * Could be an organized study table before or after school or simply meeting with the teacher before or after school to make up work missed.

  • A student who receives an I will have a one (1) week window to reconcile the I; week one (1) the student is eligible; if the student has not reconciled the I, or has made no attempt to do so, he/she will be ineligible the second (2nd) week after receiving the I.

  • A student who puts forth a “good faith effort” yet is unable to reconcile the I to passing standards shall become eligible but must continue to participate in all prescribed study interventions until passing status has been achieved. The building principal will determine whether a student has made a “good faith effort” in disputed situations.

  • Expect that playing time will be negatively affected if your child misses all or part of practice to complete missing assignments or to reconcile unsatisfactory work.

  • Any student who refuses to attend the required study intervention may be dismissed from that team for the remainder of the season.
