SCRA Library/Social Studies Grant

C:\Users\topplert\Desktop\Library Administration\DSC00064.JPG

The library books have finally arrived that were purchased from our SCRA May 2011 Grant. Boxes and boxes of them. It’s Christmas in January!  I wrote the grant to update library books in the 900 (History) section of our library. The SCRA grant purchased $15,000 in library books and two SMART boards for our two Social Studies teachers, Mrs. Garland and Mr. Quartell. The grant totaled $25,690. The SMART boards were installed in the classrooms over winter break. Come in and check out our first SMART boards at Walcott School. We will also be holding a Book Preview Party for our staff in February. Many thanks to Scott County Regional Authority for their generous contribution to the students and staff of Walcott School!

Author Visit in November

Gary Metivier, local anchorman and children's author, visited the Walcott School Library in November and presented to all elementary students. His visit was featured in the North Scott Press. His newest book, Saluting Grandpa, celebrates our veterans.

Who Am I? Exhibit

The Walcott School Library hosted the University of Northern Iowa's "Who Am I?" Exhibit for two weeks in November. All students in grades 4-8 as well members from the community visited the exhibit in the library.
