Intro to Engineering students visited John Deere Davenport Works on Wednesday. April 4th. They learned about the production process that happens at the facility and career options available for students in engineering and engineering technologies.
The Davenport Central Physics Team competed in the state physics competition held at UNI on Tuesday, April 9th. The team members participated in the Toothpick Bridge competition, Mousetrap Car competition, & the Measurement Challenge portions of the competition. The top finish of the day was the team of Saela Marshall and Maddixx Scace. They finished 7th out of 29 teams in the Mousetrap Car Competition! Great job to all of our competitors!
Three Central students recently attended the FCCLA State Leadership Conference which was held in Cedar Rapids, IA, March 17th - 19th.
Our school FCCLA Chapter was recognized by the state with the Silver Honor Chapter Award. This award is based on involvement and successes at the local, regional and state events, such as community service projects, meetings, conferences and competitions.

Members of the Central Future Teachers Club (alongside club members from West, North, and Mid City) attended the 1st Educators Rising Conference at the University of Iowa College of Education on March 6th. They listened to the 2020-2021 Iowa Teacher of the Year as a keynote speaker and attended sessions that included a college class observation and an Aspiring Educators panel discussion. Thanks to Kyle Burke, Olivia McKinnis, Charlotte Duffus, and Kyra Thovson for attending!
District students who are in the Culinary Arts Career and Technical Education Program participated in the Iowa ProStart Invitational on Tuesday, February 27th at the Iowa Event Center in Des Moines.
Students competed in the event in three categories:
At the end of the competition, DCSD students finished 2nd in both the culinary event and the management event. The students who particiapted in the cake decorating event produced a beautiful cake that showcased their collective efforts and creativity. Congratulations to all of our high school students who did an amazing job representing the rich talents of our district.
Davenport Central & Sudlow robotics team members hosted a robotics experience booth at the BEE Curious, Explore STEAM event hosted by St. Ambrose University on February 20th. Visitors to the Central/Sudlow Robotics booth were able to experience driving and completing tasks with one of three different robots designed by our robotics team members.
Unified Champions had their Valentine's Party on Wednesday, Feb. 14th. This group brings together students and our Future Teachers Club to socialize and celebrate inclusion.
The Cultural Diversity Club and the Black Student Union celebrated Martin Luther King, Jr. on January 18th by reading his "I Have A Dream Speech" during student passing periods. Students in the Introduction to Engineering class took a field trip to the Shive-Hattery Architecture & Engineering offices. The students met with and learned from numerous engineers and other professionals that work in and around the field of civil engineering. Central High School's robotics teams hosted 15 area robotics teams on Saturday, December 16th, in the Performing Arts Center. Both the Sudlow Intermediate & Central HS robotics teams competed in the competition. A special thank you to our local sponsors for their support of the Davenport Central & Sudlow Intermediate teams!
Congratulations to the Blue Illusion dance team who had their best showing at State in 16 years. These dedicated athletes were named Class XIV Hip Hop State Champions. This is the toughest division at State and they performed amazingly. Not only were they named champs, but every judge had them in first! This is their first non-coed or all-male State title.
The team also brought home their 7th straight coed State title and third straight all-male State title.
The poms team had their highest placement ever, bringing home 2nd in Class XIV pom just barely behind Pleasant Valley.The kick team brought home 3rd in Class III Kick, barely behind Southeast Polk and Ankeny Centennial

The varsity team also brought home an academic award for having a 3.5-4.0 average team GPA.

Several of our thespian students traveled to the campus of UNI for the Iowa Thespain Festival. The Blue Devil commuity is so proud of these students who work hard every single day, growing as performers, technical crew members, and spectaclular human beings. Students presented a well-received production of Ordinary Days to start off the festival, participated in the Thespy’s and workshops, watched talented students from across Iowa on stage and in events, and were supportive and respectful of each other and those around them. Thank you again for another great festival! Many thanks to the state thespian coordinators, STO’s, UNI, our wonderful parents, the administrative team, and our amazingly supportive Blue Devil community for supporting our thespian charter, Troupe 2951.
Speech and Debate had an awesome weekend at a competition at Bettendorf High School. Both public forum debate teams (first photo) ended up 3-2 and just missed the semifinals. Both teams beat prestigious teams from Iowa City West.
Benie, Carter, and Reuben (second photo) did fantastic work in speech competitions, with Reuben winning the Original Oratory category over students from Iowa who expect to win that category at nearly every event they compete in.

Congratulations to the athletes who took part in The Iowa High School Athletic Union Swimming & Diving State Meet! There were several victories to celebrate!
The weekend started with Mary Selden receiving the Regional Swimmer of the Year Award and the Davenport Central coaching staff receiving Regional Coaching Staff of the Year.
The victorious weekend concluded with the Davenport Central Coaching Staff being named Iowa Coaching Staff of the year.
It was a great weekend! These dedicated athletes worked really hard throughout their swimming careers with their teammates to get to this spot.

The medley relay team of Hannah Cousins, Isabel Heller, Gabbie Hanson, and Simone Green (Regionals champions) ranked 1st at the state level with an all American consideration time.

Congratulations to the 11 members of the Blue Illusion Dance Team who traveled to Newton for the Class XI Iowa State Dance & Drill Team Association State Solo Qualifier.
Meia Carr, Mili Mancha, Trey Gordon and Wrigley Mancha finished in the top 10 and qualified for State finals which will be held in Des Moines, November 29th - December 1st.
Congratulations to Alexis Panther, Ava Guy, Bella Hill, Emma Valleroy, Taylor Jaros and Zoe Werderman who all received Division I ratings from the three judges, and Ginger Griffith who received a Division II rating.
Members of the Future Teachers Club attended a presentation at St. Ambrose on Oct. 20th given by the Illinois Teacher of the Year, Briana Morales. Ms. Morales is a 2017 graduate of St. Ambrose and even did a practicum experience with Mrs. Jasper at Central. Ms. Morales spoke about her own experiences and her work as a teacher in East St. Louis, Illinois. Thank you to St. Ambrose and Dr. Blesz for inviting our group to this great presentation!
Congratulations to the girls swim team, winners of the MAC Champions title. These talented swimmers went undefeated in their 2023 swim season. In their last event of the season against Muscatine, individual winners were Abby Selden, Hannah Ford, Mary Selden, Saela Marshall, Gabbie Hanson, Isabel Heller and Kayla Pitzer. Special congratulations to Sael Marshall for breaking the school record in diving, a record previous set in 1990. This senior group has compiled a record of 46 wins to 7 loses through their 4 years at Central. We wish them well in the post season.
Congratulations to the following NINE choir students that were selected for the 2023 9th Grade OPUS Honor Choir! Only 180 students are selected for this ensemble across the entire state!
These students will perform at the IMEA State Conference on Thursday, November 16th, on the campus of Iowa State University.
Congratulations to Ms. Kendra Elledge, our very own orchestra teacher, on earning the title Best Teacher of the Year in the the Quad-Times "Best of the Quad Cities 2023." The award goes to a teacher for making positive contributions to the community. Ms.Elledge was nominated by a community member last spring. She is certainly deserving, and we want to thank Ms. Elledge for making us all proud Blue Devils!!
Additionaly, in the high school division, Central High School was voted runner-up as the Best High School in the Quad Cities!
On September 14, ProStart students took a field trip to St. Ambrose's foodservice department. Chef Melissa and Manager Tiffany Hayes showed students what a career in contract food service looked like. Students engaged in a tour and discussion. This is a great way to explore all the career opportunities in the culinary pathway.
