Central’s Social Worker

Meet Ms. Wurdinger

Central High School employs a full-time social worMs. Wurdinger smiling for school photoker to serve as an additional resource for all students and families.  The CHS social worker oversees our school-based mental health therapy program, CENTRAL station (on-site food pantry), manages an on-site clothing resource, coordinates counseling groups run by outside agencies and provides daily social-emotional support to students. The social worker works with students and families to identify their needs and then connects them with services that will benefit them. The social worker is also the designated homeless liaison and works with students and families that are experiencing homelessness.  Any of the above mentioned services can be accessed via the school social worker, whose contact information is located above. The social worker’s office is located within the Counseling and Student Support Services office.

EDUCATION AND COUNSELING GROUPS

CHS does periodically offer small educational and support groups based on student needs and requests.  These groups occur during DC time at the end of the day. CHS conducts an annual needs assessment that gives students an opportunity to indicate their interest in small groups. These groups  provide students with the opportunity to learn new skills and behaviors through discussion of ideas, feelings, behaviors, attitudes, and opinions in a safe setting.

SCHOOL-BASED THERAPY SERVICES

Central High School provides our students and families with on-site therapy services during the school day.  These therapy services are provided by Wellness Therapy and Consulting Services which bills students insurance for payment.  A private office is located within the Counseling and Student Services Office (CSSC) and appointment times are made in an effort to minimize absences from core academic classes.  There is a set of referral paperwork that needs to be completed by a parent or guardian of any student over the age of 18 for this service to occur.  Students who are 100% online can be seen virtually via Google Meets.

CLOTHING CLOSET/PERSONAL CARE PACKAGES

CHS maintains a small, on-site clothing closet that can be accessed by students in need of clothing.  All of the clothing is donated by staff and community members and is in clean, gently used condition.  There are winter coats, hats and gloves available every winter, along with casual and dress clothing.  If a student is in need of a particular size or article of clothing that we do not have, referrals are made to community agencies for the necessary clothing. CHS also has personal care packages that contain various hygiene items that students can receive by asking their school counselor or social worker.

CENTRAL STATION

Central Station is an on-site food pantry that can be accessed by any student at CHS that qualifies for free and/or reduced lunch.  All of the food provided in CENTRAL Station comes from the River Bend Food bank and private donations. CENTRAL Station is open the second and fourth Thursday of every month from 2:30 to 4:00 PM.  CHS also partners with Madison Market/St.Paul's Lutheran Church which is open twice monthly on Tuesdays. If you are interested in accessing either of these pantries or have questions regard this service, please email or call Judy Wurdinger at the contact information listed at the top of the page
