Pickup and Drop Off of Students

Pickup & Drop Off of Students at Jefferson Elementary School

Parking is a challenge at Jefferson, but with your help we can make it run a little smoother.

Drop-off:
Families will enter through the 10th street entrance and pull into the right lane (closest to the building). This will be the only lane open in the morning. Please pull forward as far as possible and drop-off as quickly as possible.  Please have students prepared to exit the vehicle when you pull up to the school as this will help us make the morning drop-off as efficient and safe as possible. Should you feel the need to watch your child enter the building, please pull into a designated parking space and either step out of your vehicle to watch or walk them up to the building. This prevents traffic from backing up.

Pick up:
When picking-up we ask that you stay in your vehicle as this will allow us to implement this new procedure with accuracy, efficiency, and the highest level of safety.  Please support us by following the procedures. We are aware this process takes a little bit longer than in the past but as a parent I know you would agree the safety issues outweigh the time.

Late arrivals or early release:
Parents, dropping of late arrivals or picking up early departing students are asked to only come through the 10th street entrance, as all building exits are locked from the outside after the beginning of school. Parents are asked NOT to park in the yellow curb areas or by the cones when doing so, but rather find an empty space within the lot. The early departure students must be checked out of the office by an adult.

WE HAVE MANY PARENTS THAT COME UP THE WRONG WAY… THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN FOR OUR STUDENTS. IT ALSO SENDS THE WRONG MESSAGE TO OUR STUDENTS AS WE ARE TEACHING AND RETEACHING HOW TO FOLLOW PROCEDURES.  PLEASE SUPPORT US BY FOLLOWING THE SAME EXPECTATIONS.

Thank you for your cooperation and for being part of the Jefferson Jet family.

Parents/Guardians,
As a Davenport Community School District, we are working on increasing the security in our buildings. Our ultimate goal at all times is to keep the students, staff members and families safe. So much of what we need to do to accomplish this goal can only be done via a partnership between school, home and the surrounding community.

The purpose of this letter is to inform you of our schools check in/check out procedures. These procedures will be strongly enforced.

  • Starting at 7:25am and ending at 2:50pm, when entering the building, you will go through the main office. In the main office, you will be asked to sign in using our Raptor system. This sign in will happen any time you are entering the building (going to see your child’s classroom, staying with them before school starts, picking up your student at the end of the day, looking through the lost and found, parents wanting to eat lunch with a child, student meetings, etc.)
  • ALL doors, aside from the main office door, will be locked and regulated by staff members. If a staff member asks to see your visitor badge, please show it to them. They are there to help implement the safety of the building. If you do not have a visitor badge, the staff member will escort you to the office to sign in. For school wide concerts, assemblies, etc., please just enter through the front doors and will direct you accordingly.

Please know that Jefferson will remain “family friendly”, and we love to have you involved, but it is necessary to be diligent in all we do on behalf of students and staff. If at any time you have questions regarding our procedures, please do not hesitate to contact me at (563)723-6700 or come by for a visit. Thank you in advance for respecting and supporting our school safety procedures.

Sincerely,
Kamie Montoya, Principal
